Walking Hillsboro

One of the best benefits of my new work from home, live in Hillsboro life is that I can take a mid-day walk every day if I choose…or, more accurately, fit it in.

I must admit that my time management skills often elude me and I find that it’s gotten too late or I feel too guilty that I haven’t accomplished enough in my work day to justify the break. Yet, I know (and everyone who knows me well knows) that I must have my daily walk to be my best and to keep my world in perspective.

So, a lot of days (I want to claim most) I head out the door with one of the pups (occasionally with Roger and possibly all three pups) for a 3.7 or 4.7 mile walk. I have two different loops that combine dirt and paved roads. I pass sheep, woods, historic homes, dumpy houses, extensive estates, hilltop views of mountains, a very few small businesses, Beard Brook, a couple of barking dogs, and almost zip for traffic.

The length of these walks is enough to clear my head from overload, give rise to a new idea or solution, or remind me of something important. The most important reminder, though, is that I chose this life, this perq, this form of therapy…it really is how I want to spend my time. Any guilt about the time spent is the waste of time.

I’ve enlisted Roger’s help in pushing my out the door despite whatever may be brewing or left undone. So much of each of our lives is completely made up, filled with rules of our own choosing. They only make sense because we assign reality to them.

Our responsibility in life is to choose well, and then to make the most of and enjoy our choices. I sensibly choose my walks. ;^)
